U.S. 30, 12th Street to Crystal Springs Road

US 30 12th St to Crystal Springs

Project Facts

Key No. 09891
MP 360.9 to 363.3

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will develop final design plans to improve a section of U.S. 30 between 12th Street and Crystal Springs Road.

Description

This segment will reconstruct 2.4 miles of highway west of the Portneuf River Bridges. The project will expand the highway section to four lanes with a median. Once constructed, the improvements will increase safety and capacity on U.S. 30, a heavily used trucking route. This segment is part of a larger effort to improve U.S. 30 between McCammon and Soda Springs.

Background

Approximately 31 miles of major widening and realignment from McCammon to Fish Creek (west of Soda Springs) was carried through preliminary design, public hearing and environmental approval in 2003, in three development segments.

Segment Two, approximately 3.5 miles, from Topaz Bridge to just west of Lava Hot Springs was developed through final design and is currently under construction.

Final design is required for Segments One and Three. The McCammon to Topaz project covers part of Segment One between Crystal Springs Road and Old Oregon Trail Road. Additional funding will be necessary to design and construct the remaining improvements in Segment One between McCammon and Crystal Springs Road.

Schedule and Funding

Preliminary design was carried through public hearing, Environmental Assessment, and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) determination in 2002. Final design has begun and is being performed by ITD District 5. Right-of-way acquisitions are currently being pursued by ITD.

Construction for this project is currently programmed for summer 2008, if additional funding is obtained by that time. If the U.S. 30, Topaz Bridge project is delayed because of the railroad agreement process, this project will be accelerated to take its place.
