Project Facts

Project No. A009(891)
Key No. 09891
MP 361.2 to 363.3

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will reconstruct 2.1 miles of highway west of the Portneuf River Bridges. The project will expand the highway section to four lanes with a median. Once constructed, the improvements will increase safety and capacity on U.S. 30, a heavily used trucking route. This segment is part of a larger effort to improve U.S. 30 between McCammon and Soda Springs.

Background

Approximately 31 miles of major widening and realignment from McCammon to Fish Creek (west of Soda Springs) was carried through preliminary design, public hearing and environmental approval in 2003, in three development segments.

Segment Two, approximately 3.5 miles, from Topaz Bridge to just west of Lava Hot Springs was developed through final design, and construction was completed in August 2008.

Final design is required for Segments One and Three. The McCammon to Topaz project covers part of Segment One between Crystal Springs Road and Old Oregon Trail Road. Additional funding will be necessary to design and construct the remaining improvements in Segment One between McCammon and Crystal Springs Road.

Schedule and Funding

Preliminary design was carried through public hearing, Environmental Assessment, and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) determination in 2002. Final design was performed by ITD District 5 and completed in January 2009.

Construction for this project started in April 2009, and completion is anticipated in summer 2010.
