I-84, Vista Avenue Interchange

Project Facts

Project Number A009(818)
Key Number: 09818

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will develop an interchange to replace the Vista Avenue Interchange on Interstate 84. The current interchange is a major access point to I-84 from Boise, and it needs to be reconstructed in order to safely accommodate future traffic volumes.

Background

The interstate, built in the late 1960s, was not designed to handle the current traffic volumes. Congestion will reach critical levels within the next decade.

This project is a result of an Environmental Assessment and a planning study for I-84 from just west of the Orchard Interchange to the Isaacs Canyon Interchange (Eisenman Road). The study recommends improvements for the ultimate buildout of this corridor, including replacing the existing pavement, adding lanes to the interstate from Cole Road to Gowen Road, and reconstructing the Orchard, Vista, Broadway, and Gowen interchanges to meet the future traffic capacity requirements.

Schedule and Funding

Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2009.

This project is funded through the 2009 Transportation Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program, created to strengthen the nation's economy through job creation in the transportation industry and expedite highway construction projects as part of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
