Schedule

Construction of this project began in September 2007 and was completed in May 2008.

Background

The Broadway to Eisenman section of I-84 was built in 1968 and was expected to have a useful life of 20 to 30 years. The rehabilitation project extended the roadway life another 20 years.

The project involved cracking the original concrete pavement and overlaying it with asphalt. The technique allowed the transportation department to keep two lanes open in both directions for daytime traffic in the heaviest-traveled part of the project.

Funding

The I-84, Broadway to Eisenman project was funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program. The program allows Idaho to use proceeds from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements. The construction cost was approximately $14.5 million.
