Project Facts

Key No. 10915
MP 37.9

Description

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will widen two bridges at the Garrity Interchange in Nampa. The bridges will be reconfigured to allow ITD to build a third lane on I-84 in the median.

Background

In 2001, the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) and ITD completed a cooperative planning effort called the I-84 Corridor Study. The study examined the transportation system needs for the I-84 corridor from the WYE Interchange to Idaho 44 west of Caldwell.

The study recommended specific improvements that warranted further evaluation and implementation. The recommendation to widen the interstate segment between Franklin Boulevard and Garrity Boulevard was included in the COMPASS study.

Funding

Preliminary and final design for this project are funded by the GARVEE Transportation Program.

The program uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

Schedule

This project is included as part of the Karcher Interchange to Five Mile Environmental Study, which is currently under way. Environmental clearance is anticipated in Summer 2009. Preliminary design began in Fall 2007 and is expected to be complete in December 2008. Final design is expected to be complete in October 2009. Right-of-way acquisition is not needed for this project. Construction is programmed to begin in early 2010 and will depend on future funding.
