Description

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will reconstruct the east half of the Franklin Boulevard Bridge over Interstate 84 in Nampa. Bridge reconstruction will allow for future I-84 widening between the Franklin and Garrity interchanges in Nampa.

Background

In 2001, the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) and ITD completed a cooperative planning effort called the I-84 Corridor Study. The study examined the transportation system needs for the I-84 corridor from the WYE Interchange to Idaho 44 west of Caldwell. The study recommended specific improvements that warranted further evaluation and implementation.

Funding and Schedule

Construction of this project began in August 2008 and will be completed in Summer 2009.

  • Summer 2008: Remove east half of bridge (built in 1965).
  • Fall 2008-Spring 2009: Construct new bridge and to match west half (built in 1999) and allow future I-84 widening.
  • Spring-Summer 2009: Construct new pavement, sidewalk, curb and gutter on east half of the bridge. Perform minor work to west half of bridge to match new east half, including new pavement, sidewalk and guardrail.

Bridge reconstruction is funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program. The program uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle Bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
